Homeschooling in Alberta

But What About Socialization?

I feel like it's gotta be said. Everybody asks. It almost feels like, as a society, we've been trained to ask. What ABOUT Socialization?

I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that according to the National Home Education Research Institute:

"Research facts on homeschooling show that the home-educated are doing well, typically above average, on measures of social, emotional, and psychological development. Research measures include peer interaction, self-concept, leadership skills, family cohesion, participation in community service, and self-esteem."

HSLDA Canada also has a thing about socialization here.

Basically, I'm not worried about it. My children are polite, able to maintain eye contact through a conversation. I realize I'm biased, but my kids are also really funny. They are able to make friends and get along with people. They have varied groups of peers that they get to engage with regularly. They're pretty likeable. I'm confident that your children will also be great, even if they're homeschooled ;)
